Spurs Are Actually Coming Across The Pond!

Spurs Women signed an experienced player to bolster the midfield | The club is heading overseas for the Women's team's first-ever intercontinental tournament

We've been reduced to feeding off scraps of transfer rumors for the Men's team this week, but the Women's team has made a couple of significant and exciting announcements. Let's start with the signing of Drew Spence, since it's the first incoming transfer for the team so far.

Drew Spence is a big game player

Drew brings a winning mentality to the squad

The WSL veteran comes to us from Chelsea, where she won, well, a lot of trophies. But we don't need to linger on Chelsea's success 😉. In recent seasons she had less game time due to the stacked nature of Chelsea's roster, so I will freely admit I haven't seen a lot of her yet, personally. I'm gathering from other sources that she will be a steady presence in defense, but is also a playmaker and capable of scoring a goal now and then herself. I could see Rehanne utilizing her as a sort of Swiss army knife in the midfield, serving several different roles as needed based on the personnel around her on the pitch. Spence will certainly be a big boost to the dressing room with her WSL experience, as well as helping us get to the next step in the team's progression by making a strong challenge for Champion's League qualification.

Word on the street is that Drew won't be our last midfield signing of the transfer window, so I'm curious to see if she'll end up being a starter or play more of a supporting role. Either way, she's a great depth piece for the squad.

Spurs Women are coming to the States!

Readers, I am truly hyped that I'm finally going to get to see my beloved Tottenham Hotspur play in person!

Spurs Women are kicking off the pre-season with the Women's Cup tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. There are three possible matchdays for the club, starting on August 14 and wrapping up on August 20, with two matches guaranteed. Spurs are one of two European teams in the tournament along with AC Milan, joined by Club América from Mexico and Tokyo Verdy Beleza from Japan, and the club lineup is rounded out by two NWSL teams, hosts Racing Louisville and OL Reign from Seattle. See the bracket below for Spurs' pathway in the tournament.

*excited hyperventilation noises*

We'll be facing Club América in the quarter-final and, depending on how that result goes, will either be facing OL Reign in the semi-final or taking on the loser of the AC Milan vs Tokyo Verdy Beleza match for a 5th & 6th place decider. Obviously, I am hoping we can make it all the way to the final, but I'm mostly just excited to see the club playing some new teams and getting valuable experience on the international stage.

I watched the first iteration of the tournament from home last year and really enjoyed the games (though it was a bummer to see Bayern Munich Frauen lose on penalties to Racing Louisville in the final). It was clear that all the teams were taking the tournament seriously and playing very strong lineups, even the NWSL teams for whom the tournament came mid-club season (which will also be the case for Club América), so I'm hoping to get to see most of my Spurs faves on the pitch. I'm already planning to meet up with some football friends at the tournament, so if any of y'all are making the pilgrimage to see Spurs too, let me know so we can connect! I know they're doing a 20% discount on the 3-day passes right now, so jump on that if you want to attend.

N17 Women has launched!

I'm sure most of y'all have already seen the announcement on Twitter, but just in case you haven't, I'm part of a new podcast called N17 Women dedicated exclusively to Spurs Women.

My podcast mates and I had been frustrated with the lack of podcasts focused solely on the Women's team, so we decided to start one ourselves. We've been really encouraged by the response so far, which shows that it was definitely an unfilled need in the Spurs fan community. I hope y'all will give it a listen and subscribe! Episode 02 will be out tomorrow (Sunday), discussing the current squad and transfer needs, and we're excited to do a mailbag episode next time.
